Itty bitty kitty

Meet Ollie:

Ollie is scared to death and wondering where he is.

Toby couldn't be more excited. If he could play a little gentler, I might consider leaving them out together. But as it is, he'll have to watch through the bars for now. At least while I'm not home. He tried to pick Ollie up by the neck and tote him off last night. I didn't figure that was a good idea. Poor Ollie.

This is as still as Toby got all night. And it was only after several warnings from me, to lay down and stay.

Anyway, the next few days should be interesting. Like I said, I've never had a cat before, so I'm a little out of my element. He handled a bath quite nicely last night. Didn't even squirm as I scrubbed all of the dirt off of him. I have a feeling that won't last. But I hear they're self cleaning, so maybe another bath won't be neccessary. The toughest part is going to be getting Toby to calm down and relax around him.

If we were a Disney movie, this would totally be us:

So cute! I have an orange kitty too. They get used to each other, cats and dogs. I find they either ignore each other completely or chase each other around all day, just depending on the day. Ollie is such a good name!

Oh, and yes cats are fairly clean animals, no baths required. Make sure to keep the litter clean, once a day if you can, but at least every other. Cats are much better smellers than we are, so if you can smell it, imagine what the cat is smelling. And cats always always need fresh water. Even more so than dogs. Other than that they're very self-sustaining. If he starts to scratch at something you don't want him too (like your furniture) get yourself a water gun or spray bottle. Works wonders! If that won't work, double sided tape applied to the furniture where he's scratching will drive him crazy and make him stop.

Well I'm just full of info this morning aren't I? :)

Cats are generally alot less maintenance then dogs. It's good that your dog likes the cats, and doesn't try to attack it. I can see many future nights of both animals cuddled up next to you.

Oh, and BTW, the kitten is absolutely adorable

Aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwww! Him cute. :) Cats are super self-sufficient. He will bathe himself, which will make life easier on you. Rub his little chin for me!

Heather...congrats on the new member of the house! It IS like a Disney movie! The two look like they will eventually be great friends. Good company for you also while you are away from your family.

Oh they are so cute together! He looks just like my family's cat did when we first got him. We gave our cat a bath once or twice (he hated it!) but for the most part they can take care of themselves.

Ahah! That is too cute. I would have let Toby take Ollie just to see what would happen. And then hope that Ollie isn't scarred for life. Yeah, I'm pretty bad with pets.

Welcome to kitty ownership - its just the best, way easier than the pooches. Ollie is precious and you gave the perfect name! Just one tip from a veteran kitty mom . . . watch for dehydration and failure to eat the kitten food . . . she (or he) seems a little young yet to be weaned from the mother. Yep, no bath necessary, self-cleaning all the way! Otherwise, enjoy, you will love having that little fur ball!

Oh, and I thought of another kitten tip . . . the more you hold, cuddle, stroke, and give them loving attention when they're so tiny, the better temperment they will have as they grow. I am so jealous of your new little occupant, you lucky girl. Tobie will hopefully mellow over time with Ollie . . . good to be watchful for now tho.

It's amazing how closely the three of you resemble the Disney movie! All Toby needs is a red bandana.

When we got Crash we still had our dog Judge. I had never owned my own cat either. It took Judge and crash about two months and then they were best friends. They would sleep together on our bed and always be where the other was. I was so sad for Crash when Judge died. He hid in our drawers for about two days when he lost his best friend. I think Ollie and Toby will be best buddies before you know it. I love that your little family is growing and Ollie is soooooooo adorable. You'll see how easy he is to take care of compared to Toby.

Adorable! I want to hug a kitty right now!

Haha, you're right! That movie cover TOTALLY looks like you guys!

Cats are definitely self cleaning... all I use on Gemini is "pet wet wipes" from time to time. Honestly, cats are about 99 times easier to take care of than dogs. Except for the claws. Yes... if you're not going to de-claw Ollie I'd definitely recommend a scratching post!

I'm so excited for you!!!

So super duper cute! I love that Toby loves his new playmate. Soon, Ollie will be smacking him around and showing him who is boss...and it is not YOU!

I love the fact that Toby carried Ollie by his neck --- Toby has the instincts of a parent.

Very cute pics!

haha Aww I have a kitty just like yours orange and white striped too! His name is Sharpie because it looks like someone slashed a black sharpie on his nose (it's really his birthmark) haha. I wish I could put a picture through these comments, but nope! Anyway I hope you're enjoying your Itty bitty kitty! :)
