Sounds like life to me...

Hello again.

Have you ever had weeks, or maybe months – or how about entire years – that seem to be working against you?

*sigh*

Because I definitely have.

But you know what? The other day, while I was wallowing in my sorrows, I heard a song on the radio that made me nod my head and say, “Yeah… that’s a good way to look at things.”

Check out the lyrics to “Sounds Like Life To Me” by Darryl Worley:

Got a call last night, from an old friend’s wife.
Said “I hate to bother you,
Johnny Ray fell off the wagon,
He’s been gone all afternoon.”
I know my buddy, so I drove to Skully’s
And found him at the bar.
I say, “Hey man, what’s going on?”
He said, “I don’t know where to start.

Sarah’s old car’s about to fall apart,
And the washer quit last week.
We had to put Mama in the nursing home
And the baby’s cutting teeth.
I didn’t get much work this week
And I got bills to pay.”
I said, “I know this ain’t what you want hear,
But it’s what I’m gonna say,

Sounds like life to me. It ain’t no fantasy.
It’s just a common case of everyday reality.
Man I know it’s tough, but you gotta suck it up.
To hear you talk, you’re caught up in some tragedy.
It sounds like life to me.”

Well, his face turned red and he shook his head.
He said, ‘You don’t understand.
Three kids and a wife depend on me,
And I’m just one man.
To top it off, I just found out
That Sarah’s two months late.”
I said, “Hey bartender, set us up a round.
We need to celebrate!

Sounds like life to me. Plan old destiny.
Yeah, the only thing for certain is uncertainty.
You gotta hold on tight, just enjoy the ride.
Get used to all this unpredictability.
Sounds like life.

Man, I know it’s tough, but you gotta suck it up.
To hear you talk, you’re caught up in some tragedy.
Sounds like life to me.”

Pretty good, right? I mean, apart from all of the “ain’ts” and such. But the part that really hit home for me was the, “Man, I know it’s tough. But you gotta suck it up.”

I guess that’s where I’m at right now. I gotta just suck it up and get on with life.

And for those of you wondering… I’m single again. Things didn’t work out. And I really don’t want to talk about it right now.

Sorry you're sad sweetie, but glad you're "single" again. I don't know everything, but IMO, that guy was a train wreck waiting to happen. You deserve (and will do) much, MUCH better.

Thanks UF.

But you know - I still don't want people bad-mouthing him. Things didn't work for us, but he's not a bad guy and he helped me through a lot of tough things in my life. I learned a lot from our relationship and sincerely wish things could have worked out differently.

So, yeah.. I'm sad, but I hope people don't blame him for everything. Sometimes, no matter how much you want something, it's just not in the cards (or God's plan).

This is a song from the musical wicked. It helped me come to terms with my past relationships, and view them as learning experiences that i needed to go through so that I could appreciate and know that my wife was "the one". I hope it helps you in your time of sadness.

(Elphaba):
I'm limited
Just look at me - I'm limited
And just look at you
You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
So now it's up to you
For both of us - now it's up to you...

(Glinda):
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you...

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

(Elphaba):
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend...

Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you

(Glinda):
Because I knew you

(Both):
I have been changed for good

(Elphaba):
And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for

(Glinda):
But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

(Both):
And none of it seems to matter anymore

(Glinda):
Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood

(Elphaba):
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a bird in the wood

(Both):
Who can say if I've been
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better

(Glinda):
And because I knew you...

(Elphaba):
Because I knew you...

(Both):
Because I knew you...
I have been changed for good...

I'm sorry that it didn't work out. Better to know now than to use up more time on someone who wasn't right for you though, right?

I'm not much of a country music person, but those lyrics are very true, and they speak to a lesson that I have to remind myself of nearly every day: Life isn't about what happens or doesn't happen to us, it's about our reactions to those events. So you can wallow in your pain, sure, or you can choose (choose!!) to look on the bright side, find some way around the pain, and keep living your life to its fullest. And it is a choice, one that we make every day in small and large ways.

I hope you can find some peace and happiness soon, and I'm glad you're taking such a good attitude about it.

(HUGZ) to you its at times like this that sometimes there are just no words to make what you are feeling...feel any better...it to is a part of life we have to go thru......just take what you can from the relationship and move on....live and learn they say...one day this will all make sense

Hey Heather,
You're right, that is a good song, and now you've got it stuck in my head.
Thanks.
Sorry things didn't work out like you wanted but they will get better, and when they do, you'll see the big picture and it'll be great.

P.S. Sorry about posting twice, hit the wrong button.

Bleh. That sucks, lady. And yes, it sounds like life. :-)

The one thing I know for certain is that you are such a beautiful, positive person that everything's going to work out for the best! What "best" is... I have no idea. But if anyone can find it, it's you!

Heather, I know it feels awful right now and you don't know what your future holds. I have been through enough breakups to know that you never know what will happen. Go through the pain, cry when you have to...it's the only way to get through it. Just try to embrace it. You are a very strong person - I know it and I know that you will get through this and survive and thrive. Hugs my friend!

OH! Sorry things did not work out. Things really do suck sometimes. Hang in there. Keep blogging, up the exercise, and try not to give in to the urges to stay inside all day feeling bad. Exercise and blogging got me thru...I suspect it'll do the same for you, sweetie!

Heather...I know you said you don't want to talk about it right now...it seems as though your blogging friends including me...didn't listen! It is just because we care...time to get out that Ipod, crank it up and move down the road...I know...easier said than done...just let us know if you need some support.
Good luck and Yellowstone couldn't come at a better time!

Sorry things didn't work out.

As bad/stupid/simple as the saying sounds, "suck it up" is really all you have to do to get through tough times. I jokingly yell that to my friends all the time. However, when things get serious, I have to find a better way to say it.

Feel better. Do whatever it is that makes you happy/cheers you up. It's summer time, don't let it go to waste!
